Hip Yet Comfy, My Favorite Combo

These pieces work for any age, any size!

I started this blog to share my 20+ years experience in beauty and my passion for learning all things health related BUT, I’m often asked about my outfits so I wouldn’t be serving my audience well if I didn’t occasionally share what I’m wearing. I won’t post links but I will share where I shopped and hopefully someday Liketoknowit will approve me to link items to make shopping easier for you!

I work from home coaching women with their health so I can wear anything I want and that’s usually active wear, but when I freelance doing makeup I like to be equally comfy yet stylish. Friends, we’ve never lived in a better time of fashion! (well, except for the 80s! Where my 80s girls at?) Because I’m 52, I’m mindful of not trying to dress like a 21 year old, but I also like to look youthful and hip because of the industry I’m in. I also work hard on my body and while you’ll never see me in midriffs or miniskirts, I do like to look fit.

So let’s get started: all of these pieces were purchased in the last week so should still be available. My top is Old Navy Activewear. It’s a black sweatshirt that has crisscross panels in the front making for a flattering shape while longer in the back to cover your backside. My ankle boots are from Target and are so easy to slip into due to the deep cut under the ankle. On cold days I might need socks to cover exposed skin but they’re perfect for now, pair these with leggings or skinny pants. My pants were my most surprising discovery. I popped into Rue 21 for my tween daughter and spotted these camo skinny jeans for me. They have lots of stretch making them about as comfy as activewear. I’m normally a size 2 or 4 in ladies pants but because this is a Junior’s store, I’m a size 6. They’re mid-rise so they hide the muffin top but not so high waisted that they are unflattering from the back. I work out hard, especially fighting gravity on my backside, but even super high waisted don’t flatter my booty too well. All of these pieces were around $25 each! An entire outfit for only $75! I’m terrible at accessorizing but you could elevate this outfit to a whole new level with some fun pieces. If you do, send me a photo, I need inspiration in that area!

Special Occasion Eye Shadow Tutorial for Mature Eyes

….. but works for any age!

This tutorial was primarily for my friend Kelly who offered to help her friend with special occasion makeup this coming weekend. We are gals over 40, possibly even 50, and if not done correctly can age someone rather than enhance their beauty. My Fast & “5” Overnight Oats

Only 5 ingredients, only minutes to prepare!

Friends, I’m going to make this a fast, easy read because this is a fast easy recipe! I look forward to making this each week because it literally only takes minutes to prepare, can store in fridge for days, and is the easiest, healthiest grab-n-go breakfast you’ll EVER make! Who has time for a Starbucks drive thru? This is a huge time saver, budget saver AND nourishes your body in ways a drive thru can’t.

OH, and for my FASTer Way to Fat Loss clients (macros listed below), make this in batches on Tuesday evenings for grab-n-go-mornings on Regular Macro days like Wednesdays thru Sundays! I love using mason jars and eat right out of them but you could use Tupperware as well.

Ready? It’s so easy you don’t even have to write this down but feel free to screenshot and save to Favorites on your phone for quick access; that’s what I do with many recipes myself.

Ingredients: Rolled Oats (1/2 cup), Chia Seeds (1 TBSP), Vanilla Almond milk (8 oz), Cinnamon (dash), and fresh blueberries (as many as you want). **Note: I use Bob’s Mill Organic Rolled Oats or Trader Joe’s Rolled Oats in a bag. Don’t use “quick” oats and won’t work with “Irish” oats.

Directions: Add all ingredients except blueberries. Mix well, especially to make sure the chia seeds are well mixed and not clumping. Store in refrigerator until morning; can keep for 3-5 days. That’s it! Easy! I like to add the fruit the next morning but you can place it on top of the mixture the night before. You can even add your choice of sweetener, just make sure it fits your macros!

Now, for Macros with 1/2 cup berries: 43 g Carbs, 10 g Fat, and 10 g protein

Best Hummus EVER! And Easy!

Top with a drizzle of EVOO, a dash of Paprika, and a sprinkle of chopped fresh parsley

I adore hummus and was fortunate to have grown up in California where every ethnic food imaginable was available to me. We were blessed to have had an amazing Lebanese restaurant within walking distance, and even more blessed to have a Lebanese next door neighbor. Samo taught me how to make real falafel, one of my favorite dishes on earth, and homemade hummus. I love how customizable hummus is! I’m a HUGE lemon and garlic fan so I’ll show you my recipe the way I love it but you can omit and/or add anything you want. Hummus is super easy to make and gives you a larger amount than store bought so it’s cost effective. I do still pick up hummus from the grocery store on busy weeks, there are so many good ones, but there is nothing I love more than the flavor of my own! If you’ve never made your own before, get ready to be amazed, you’ll become addicted! And what a healthy addiction it is!

Ingredients:

Can of Garbanzo Beans 15.5 oz, drained and rinsed

3 TBSP Extra Virgin Olive Oil

3 TBSP Tahini (often in PB aisle, but always in International Foods)

Juice of one lemon (1& 1/2 if you want extra tangy)

1-3 garlic cloves minced (I like 3; and don’t use jarred, please use fresh)

1 teaspoon cumin

1 teaspoon salt ( I love pink himalayan salt)

2-3 TBSP water

Directions: dump everything except water into your food processor. Don’t pulse, use the ON button to blend well. Stop and scrap sides. Blend again until it looks incorporated. Now add 1 TBSP of water at a time and blend. I love my hummus really creamy but you can omit water if you like yours drier and more textured. I usually stop at 3 TBSP, for me the perfect consistency!

Serving Size is 2 TBSP and here are the macros for my FASTer Way clients:

Fat: 4 grams

Carbs: 5 grams (net carbs are 3.5)

Protein: 1.5 grams

Hey friends, I’m asked weekly in person and via direct messages how I do my top knot. I thought everyone knew how but I’m learning that just because something is easy for me, doesn’t mean everyone knows. Just like how I don’t know how to invest money! Or do housework! Or landscaping! Never be shy reaching out to me to find out my techniques or products, I’m here to serve! Not much more to say, it’ll all make more sense by watching this brief video. I try to keep all of my videos under 10 minutes because women are busy and there are too many tutorials out there that take FAR to long to watch! Cut to the chase, people! Spanish Jalapeno Chicken Burger

I’m pretty happy with myself! For those of you who know me well, you know I’m a creature of habit, often eating the same simple foods as long as they’re tasty. I don’t really follow recipes, maybe only a handful a year, because most of my meals are simply a protein, fat, and carb, aka: macros.

Recently I was looking at an about-to-expire package of fresh ground chicken and wondering what to do with it. I was craving spicy! And while I’m ALWAYS down for a taco, we had just had tacos that particular week. Jalapeños popped into my head and before I knew it I was whipping together ingredients. I happened to have manchego cheese on hand, because at the FASTer Way we live largely dairy free, occasionally eating cheese from goat or sheep only. No loss for me, I adore goat and sheep’s cheese and feel better eating it than cow dairy which bloats.

I digress, the chicken burgers turned out perfectly! The real test was what my hubby thought. Win! He raved about them and asked if we could have them once a week, at least! That’s when I realized I didn’t record my ingredients and measurements. So I made them again and again until we both agreed on the perfect combination, chickeny (I create my own words), creamy, with just the perfect amount of heat!

Hubby eats his burgers on Dave’s Thin-sliced organic whole grain bread and I wrap mine in lettuce. They’re fabulous with avocado or a little mayo but they are so packed with flavor that you won’t really need condiments. I will list the ingredients and instructions, below, along with macros for my FASTer Way clients, and all I ask is that you report back and let me know what you think! Feel free to add or subtract ingredients according to your taste and preference.

Ingredients:

1 lb Ground Chicken (serves 4)

1 Egg

2 TBSP Gluten-Free Panko breadcrumbs (we eat gluten free on FASTer Way)

2 Chopped green onions

2 TBSP (heaping) Chopped Jalapeños (from a jar) not fresh

1/4 c. Manchego Cheese, shredded, OR Feta from sheep, not cow

1 tsp salt (use only 1/2 tsp if using feta as feta is more salty)

Pepper to taste

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a bowl, whisk the egg and add breadcrumbs. Add in the chicken, onions, and jalapeños and mix well, using hands works best. Once well mixed, add in cheese, salt and pepper and mix again until the ingredients look well balanced.

Divide into 4 patties. Heat a cast iron skillet with avocado oil. Once the oil is hot, place patties on one side for 3-4 minutes until they release, flip over for another 3-4 minutes. Place the entire pan with patties in the oven and cook for another 5-6 minutes, flipping them again at 3 minutes. Remove from oven and immediately remove from pan and let them sit a few minutes on a plate before serving.

Macros for 1 Serving:

Carbs: 7 g, Fat: 28 g, Protein: 35.5 g

Stop the Mask of Foundation

Is your foundation aging you? Maybe its not YOU, maybe its foundation in general. I ditched foundation in my late 30s because it made my skin look older. As we age our pores enlarge, sunspots rear their ugly head, nose/cheeks/chin become uneven, and our skin takes on texture. Foundation only enhances that.
